14/09/02 Queen of Scots

D9000's number 1 engine failed shortly before York yesterday afternoon (Friday), So it was hoped that 019 would be available, until someone pointed out that she had been promised elsewhere.

47726 was provided by EWS for the none Steam legs of the tour.

As for 60009, she ran perfectly, the only thing that held us up was a points failure at Berwick during the water top-up and a late running GNER service that we had to wait for. (also at Berwick)

Photos to follow shortly.

Statement from DNLL web site regarding D9000's failure:

The loco had left Tyne Yard fit and running on both power units, on the morning of September 13th, with 5G55 hauling a Class 325 unit No. 325001 for EWS, which was bound for its home depot at Crewe. The loco performed well until shortly before York when No. 1 power unit shut down and could not be re-started at the time. The loco continued to power the train to Doncaster on one engine, and arrived there without causing delays. DNLL were pleased to assist EWS with the movement of the Class 325.

The loco was pulled from working the Past Time tour by DNLL as a safeguard against sustaining a possible failure the following day. D9000 was then towed, as arranged, to Wembley on the 6M97 freight. The loco will now return to Hornsey Depot for investigation and rectification before its next booked working.

Having just got back from three weeks in Scotland I thought it was time to start planning my next trip there and what better way to get there than behind a Deltic so I've just booked myself onto the "Queen of Scots" on 14th September.

Saturday 15th June

What a fantastic day !

D9000 successfully completed the Kings Cross-Edinburgh return working yesterday with Past Time Rail's 'Anniversary Scotsman'. One of the best days of my life, the whole journey was amazing but the return working was out of this world.

Yet to be confirmed are speeds of 108 MPH !!!!! Not bad for an old girl . Arrival at Edinburgh was a staggering 21 minutes early.

I'll be posting some of the 64 photos I took as soon as I get a few minutes.

Click on the links for a selection of photographs from the day : Kings Cross - Newcastle , Newcastle - Edinburgh & Edinburgh - York

For reasons unknown to me, the 3 above links have stopped working, but the pages can be found on my old site by clicking here >>>>Page 1 , Page 2 , Page 3 .

For a full report of the day, visit P.A.Bettany's site - 55s.co.uk.

Friday 14th June

I'll be aboard the 08:18 Past-Time Rail sevice from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh and return hauled by D9000 Royal Scots Grey tomorrow.
